Rahane and Pujara were not considered for the South Africa Test series.
Pujara was dropped from the Indian Test team after the World Test Championship (WTC) final loss to Australia in June this year.
On the other hand, Rahane, who made his comeback to the Test team in the WTC final, endured failures on the tour of West Indies in July and was not considered for the two-Test series in South Africa.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Rahane on Friday (December 29) posted a video of him batting in the nets with the caption, “No rest days”.
A day later, Pujara shared a clip, where he was seen honing his batting skills. The Saurashtra batter captioned the video as, “Ranji Trophy prep mode: ????”.
Notably, Team India succumbed to an innings and 32 runs defeat in the Centurion Test against South Africa.
The Indian batting line-up failed to step up as a unit in both innings, getting bowled out for 245 and 131 to lose the Test match inside three days.
With this loss, India also conceded an unassailable 1-0 lead to South Africa in the two-match Test series.
India’s next Test series is scheduled against England at home. It will be interesting to see if Rahane and Pujara get picked for the five-Test series, slated to get underway on January 25 in Hyderabad.
