Rahim became the 11th batter overall to get handled the ball out in international cricket.
Bangladesh and New Zealand are clashing in the second Test of the two-match series being played in Mirpur, Dhaka on December 6, 2023. Bangladesh leads the series 1-0 having won the first Test match.
Home skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and chose that Bangladesh would bat first. However, New Zealand learned from their mistakes and employed spinners Ajaz Patel and Mitchell Santner early and they got four early wickets in the first session itself.
Bangladesh was reduced to 47/4 in 15 overs. But then Mushfiqur Rahim (35) and Shahadat Hossain (31) brought some stability to the innings. But Rahim’s 83-ball vigil at the crease came to an end bizarrely.
In the 41st over bowled by Kyle Jamieson, Rahim played a solid defensive shot at the crease. The ball bounced in front of him and was going away from the stumps, but for some reason, Rahim used his gloves to push the ball further away. Jamieson and New Zealand appealed straightaway.

The on-field umpires went to the TV umpire, who after looking at replays, gave Rahim out handled the ball. It was a brain-fade moment for Rahim who stopped the ball with his right hand despite the ball not being close to the stumps.
