CWC 2023: PM Modi hails Virat Kohli's dedication and exceptional talent after his record-breaking 50th ton

Virat Kohli has been on fire with the bat in the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi showered rich praise on Virat Kohli after the Indian batter scripted history in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 semifinal clash against New Zealand.

The dashing right-hander smashed a wonderfully compiled century at the packed Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai to break his idol Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing world record in ODI cricket.

Kohli has set the new world record for most ODI hundreds with his incredible knock in the first semifinal of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium.

The former Indian skipper now has 50 ODI centuries to his name in 279 matches, while Tendulkar required 452 to reach 49 centuries in the 50-over format. Well, after Kohli shattered Tendulkar’s iconic record, PM Modi took to X to laud Virat for his remarkable milestone.

The Honourable Indian Prime Minister said that this feat is a testament to Kohli’s enduring dedication and exceptional talent. He hopes Kohli will continue to set a benchmark for future generations.

PM Modi wrote on X: “Today, Virat Kohli has not only secured his 50th ODI century but has also exemplified the spirit of excellence and perseverance that defines the best of sportsmanship. This remarkable milestone is a testament to his enduring dedication and exceptional talent. I extend heartfelt congratulations to him. May he continue setting a benchmark for future generations.”

Coming back to the match, Indian opener Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten 80 after retiring hurt earlier on 79, and then Kohli and Shreyas Iyer went on to hit the New Zealand bowlers all around the Wankhede Stadium to notch up their respective centuries.

Kohli scored 117 runs from 113 deliveries, laced with nine fours and two sixes, while Iyer was dismissed for 105 runs off 70 balls. The duo helped Team India post 397/4 on the board against New Zealand on Wednesday.
