Bangladesh keeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim was dismissed in hilariously bizarre fashion in the third and final ODI against New Zealand in Mirpur on September 26, 2023.

Bangladesh came into this match needing to win it to level the series after the first match was rained off and New Zealand won the second match. Najmul Hossain Shanto, captaining Bangladesh for the first time in ODIs, won the toss and chose to bat first.

He also top-scored for his team with 76 and Mahmudullah made 21 runs as the hosts were bundled for 171 in 34.3 overs. Adam Milne took four wickets, while Trent Boult and Cole McConchie took two wickets apiece.

During Bangladeshi innings, Mushfiqur, while batting at 18, was facing Kiwi captain Lockie Ferguson in the 16th over. He chopped a short delivery with the ball going back onto his stumps. And in desperation to stop himself from getting dismissed, he decided to kick the ball away.

But instead of making the save, he completely missed the ball, which trickled onto the stumps and dislodged the bail. And in the process, Mushfiqur also kicked his stumps. There was slight confusion regarding the nature of the dismissal but it was given bowled by the umpires.
