England posted 283 in 1st innings on day 1 of Oval Test and Australia are 61/1 at stumps.
Despite a brilliant 111-run partnership between Harry Brook (85) and Moeen Ali (34), England, who were put into bat by Australia captain Pat Cummins, could only post 283 in their first innings. Apart from Brook and Ali, Ben Duckett made 41 and Chris Woakes added 36 runs to the total.
For Australia, Mitchell Starc took 4/82, while Josh Hazlewood and Todd Murphy took two wickets apiece.
In response, Australia ended day one on 61/1, losing David Warner for 24 runs, as he was dismissed by Chris Woakes.
After the day’s play, Ricky Ponting was sharing his thoughts on the day's proceedings as part of the Sky Sports commentary panel, but was left absolutely furious as unruly England crowd at The Oval pelted grapes at him.
Sky Sports host Ian Ward made an effort to laugh off the incident, but Ponting vowed to find out who the culprits were as he gave a menacing stare down at the crowd.
Ponting, shaking in rage, said: “I’ve just been hit by a grape. I wouldn’t mind finding out who that was actually.”
