The altercation happened on day five of the first Ashes 2023 Test.
This came after Khawaja was given an expletive-laden send off by Ollie Robinson in the first innings after the opener had scored a brilliant 141 runs, his first Ashes hundred in England.
Robinson appeared to shout “F*** off, you f***ing p***k” at Khawaja after bowling him on day three.
Things came to boil on day five, which began late due to rain interruption, as Khawaja once again looked to give Australia a good start in their chase of 281 runs, as they resumed on 107/3.
The final over before the drinks break had been bowled by Robinson, with its last ball full but left alone by Khawaja. And then the two cricketers got into a heated exchange of words.
“Freebie, isn’t it?” Robinson said as quoted by Wisden.
“Half volley, field up? In the rough mate,” responded Khawaja.

“That’s why you’re not a batsman. Nice to see you say something,” came Robinson’s response.
“Be careful what you say, mate,” said Khawaja.
This altercation was caught on stump mic and led to veteran James Anderson shepherding Robinson away from Khawaja. According to reporters at the ground, umpire Marais Erasmus then spoke to Robinson, with Khawaja receiving a friendly pat on the back from Robinson before play resumed.
