Kaif's diving effort dismissed a dangerous looking Upul Tharanga.
Indian Maharajas needed to beat Asia Lions in order to qualify for the finals and meet World Giants in the summit clash. However, they were unsuccessful in their bid as after opting to bat, Asia Lions piled up a huge 191/5 after Tharanga’s 31-ball fifty and some notable contributions by Mohammad Hafeez (38) and Asghar Afghan (34).
Tharanga was looking dangerous and, in the 9th over of the Lions’ innings, cut a short ball from Pragyan Ojha towards the covers. The ball seemed to be racing towards the boundary, however, Mohammad Kaif dived full length and plucked a one-handed gem out of thin air.
The 42-year-old former India cricketer was considered to be one of the best fielders during his time in international cricket and showed once again, that despite his age, he still had the agility and commitment towards the game.

In reply, though openers Robin Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir added 47 runs for the first wicket, things fell off the wagon for them as they were bowled out for 106 runs and lost the match by 85 runs. Gambhir made 17-ball 32, while Sohail Tanvir and Abdur Razzak picked two wickets for the Lions.
