Stokes broke McCullum's record of 107 sixes in Tests and now has 109 maximums to his name.
England captain Ben Stokes etched his name in Test record books on Saturday as he broke his current coach and former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum’s record for most sixes in Test cricket in the ongoing first Test against New Zealand at Bay Oval.
Brendon McCullum, who played for New Zealand from 2002 to 2016, made 6453 runs in 101 Tests and hit 107 sixes in his career.
And on Saturday, February 18, 2023, Ben Stokes broke that record as he hooked seamer Scott Kuggeleijn over a fine leg halfway through the third day of the opening Test match against New Zealand at Mount Maunganui, to hit the 108th six of his Test career.

After catching the shot but losing his footing and placing his foot on the rope, boundary fielder Neil Wagner gave Stokes a respite, allowing him to make it 109 sixes with the subsequent delivery.
After Stokes (109) and McCullum (107), only Adam Gilchrist has over 100 sixes in his Test career, hitting exactly 100 maximums. Chris Gayle hit 98 sixes and Jacques Kallis completes the top five with 97 sixes to his name.
Adam Gilchrist also reacted to a tweet mentioning the top three six-hitters in Test cricket by quoting the said tweet and saying: "Sloggers, all of em"
