Joe Root scored 73 runs in England's second innings.
After Pakistan was bowled out for 579 on the fourth day, England started to build on the lead they acquired thanks to their first innings total of 657 runs. While Ben Duckett followed his first innings century with a golden duck in the second innings, Zak Crawley hit a half-century.
Then it came to Joe Root and Harry Brook who resumed the aggressive bazball tactics. Babar Azam brought in leg-spinner Zahid Mahmood in action and he was bowling outside leg-stump to stifle the run scoring.
However, Joe Root being the brilliant batter he is, after switch-hitting or reverse sweeping, began batting properly left-handed as he even swept Mahmood perfectly. He was dismissed for 73 runs in 69 balls, as England’s lead swelled to 270 runs at the time of writing this article.

Meanwhile, Abdullah Shafique (114), Imam Ul Haq (121), and Babar Azam (136) were the top scorers for Pakistan in their first innings, while Agha Salman scored a half-century as well during their innings of 579 runs. For England, Will Jacks picked up 6/161 on his Test debut, while Jack Leach took 3/190.
