Roger Binny replaced Sourav Ganguly as BCCI President.
Binny, who was serving as the president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) was elected unopposed and will leave his previous role. Binny was the only one to file a nomination for the presidential post.
He played a huge role in India’s 1983 World Cup win as he picked 18 wickets in the tournament. He played 27 Tests and 72 ODIs for India from 1972-1987 and picked 47 and 77 wickets respectively.
Sourav Ganguly, the outgoing BCCI president, whom Binny replaced in the role also extended his best wishes.
“I wish Roger (Binny) all the best. The new group will take this forward. BCCI is in great hands. Indian cricket is strong so I wish them all the luck,” Ganguly told news agency ANI.
Binny had been part of the BCCI selection panel when Sandeep Patil was the chief.
Azharuddin, who was present at the AGM being the president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) talked to ANI and said, "He (Roger Binny) is a nice man. I have played a lot of cricket with him and we have fond memories. No discussions took place on the ICC chairman post today, the board will decide later."
Now that Binny will take over the BCCI president's duties in an official manner, he received a lot of congratulatory messages from the Indian cricket fraternity.
