The Pakistan team defeated hosts New Zealand in the final to win the T20I tri-series which also involved Bangladesh. The final was played at Christchurch on October 14, 2022, and Pakistan won the match by 5 wickets.
The Men in Green had won the toss and chose to bowl first and restricting New Zealand to 163/7 with Kane Williamson top-scoring with 59 runs. In reply, Mohammad Nawaz’s 38*, Mohammad Rizwan’s 34 and quickfire knocks from Haider Ali and Iftikhar Ahmed took Pakistan home with 3 balls to spare and 5 wickets in hand.
Apart from Kane Williamson, Glenn Phillips also contributed to New Zealand’s final total, scoring 29 in 22 balls with one four and one six to his name.
The pick of the Pakistani bowlers was Haris Rauf who picked 2/22 in his 4-over spell. And during that spell, he bowled at the pace of the wind, troubling the Kiwi batters with his pace. And that pace cost Phillips his bat as well.
On the fourth ball of the sixth over of the New Zealand innings, Rauf delivered such a pacy that it broke Glenn Phillips’ bat. The ball hit the inside bottom edge of the bat, breaking it clean in due process.
