Babar posted a tribute tweet for the Swiss Tennis legend on his retirement.
The social media was flooded with wishes for Federer, who is among the most loved sportspersons of his generation.
Pakistan’s cricket captain Babar Azam also extended his wish for Federer. Taking to Twitter, he wrote: "Greatness personified. One of a kind. Iconic. Happy retirement, you absolute legend @rogerfederer!"
As soon as Babar posted the tweet, the fans were quick to remind him that he doesn’t know the Tennis legend. During an interview dating back to March 2021, the Pakistan skipper had failed to recognise Roger Federer.
"Iska kya naam tha? mujhe nahi pta. Federer, right? Roger Federer?" Babar can be heard saying in the old video.
In what was the last-ever competitive game for Federer, he teamed up with his longtime rival and friend Rafael Nadal for Team Europe.
Federer and Nadal played the men’s doubles match against Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock of Team World, and were defeated 4-6, 6-6, 11-9.
