Australian opener David Warner came up with a very emotional message for the Sri Lankan fans after their tour of the Asian nation ended. Sri Lanka managed to draw the two-Test series by winning the second Test in Galle by an innings and 39 runs.

While Australia won the T20I series 2-1, the home team gave their country something to celebrate by bouncing back and taking the ODI series 3-2.

This was a huge relief for the Sri Lankan fans as the nation is undergoing a tumultuous time with the escalating costs of living due to recession and the country’s coffers being near empty with citizens trying everything to get their hands on basic necessities like fuel, gas for cooking, food and other things.

Tens of thousands have taken to the streets in recent months, calling for the country's leaders to resign over accusations of economic mismanagement.

Warner took to Instagram to thank the Sri Lankan fans and nation for hosting Australia with a heart-felt note.

He wrote: "Thank you Sri Lanka for hosting us here during what is an extremely difficult time. We are so grateful to be able to come here and play the game we love and know you all love supporting. You have opened your arms up to us and we will never forget this trip.

What I love about your amazing country is no matter the circumstances you always have a smile on your face and are always so welcoming. Thank you and I can’t wait to one day visit for a holiday with my family.”
