Nicholls was out caught after ball he hit ricocheted off the bat of non-striker and went to mid-off fielder.
Yesterday, Nicholls found himself getting out in one of the most bewildering ways. He had stepped out to play a booming drive off Jack Leach and managed to get a lot of bat on the ball. However, it went straight towards Daryl Mitchell at the non-striker’s end, who didn’t have much time to react and get out of the way.

The ball zeroed in on the middle of Mitchell’s flailing bat as he attempted to pull it out of the way, and deflected away towards mid-off, while the umpire at the bowling end ducked and weaved to save himself. The ball hit Mitchell’s bat and ricocheted to the mid-off fielder where Alex Lees gracefully accepted the catch.
Reacting to the dismissal, Sachin Tendulkar quoted the tweeted and posted: “In gully Cricket, we’d declare the non-striker out.”
Meanwhile, the MCC, who are the custodians of the rules and laws of cricket, put out a tweet in reference to the dismissal and termed it perfectly legal.
"An unfortunate dismissal? Yes. But wholly within the Laws. Law 33.2.2.3 states it will be out if a fielder catches the ball after it has touched the wicket, an umpire, another fielder, a runner or the other batter," MCC tweeted.
