Kohli is widely regarded as one of the best batters in modern-day cricket.
Virat Kohli, the former India captain and perhaps the best limited-overs batter in the world, has reached yet another milestone, this time on the social media platform Instagram. He might be suffering a dip in form but it hasn’t impacted his worldwide popularity.
On Tuesday (June 07), the flamboyant cricketer became the first Indian to reach the 200 million followers mark on Instagram. He put a post to thank the fans for their support.
"200 million strong. Thanks for all your support insta fam," Virat said in an Instagram post.
After Cristiano Ronaldo (450M) and Lionel Messi (333M), the 33-year-old is the third most followed sportsperson in the world and by far the most followed cricketer.
After the ICC T20 World Cup in the UAE last year, Kohli stepped down as T20I captain. India's performance at the premier event was dismal, as they crashed out in the group stage.
Following that, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) removed him as ODI captain and replaced him with Rohit Sharma. Kohli also stepped down as Test skipper following India's three-match series defeat in South Africa.
Rohit was named as the new Test captain. India is set to host South Africa for five T20Is between June 9-19. The current and former skippers are among the players who have been offered time off following the conclusion of the IPL 2022.
