Australian legend Shane Warne passed away from a suspected heart-attack on Friday.
Fans on Twitter reacted angrily to former India captain Sunil Gavaskar's remarks about Australia cricket legend Shane Warne, who chastised the batting legend for commenting on the leg-spinner's unimpressive record against India on the day of his death. Warne, 52, died of a suspected heart attack in Thailand on Friday (March 4).
Gavaskar was asked to compare and rate Warne among the greatest spinners to have embraced the sport, but he refused to do so, instead claiming that Indian spinners and Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan had a better record than Warne.
“No, I wouldn’t say that no. For me the Indian spinners and Muttiah Muralitharan were better than Shane Warne," he told India Today.
“Look at Shane Warne’s record against India. It was pretty ordinary. In India, he got five wickets only once in Nagpur, and that too because Zaheer Khan swung wildly against him to give him a fifer. Because he did not have much success against Indian players who were very good players of spin, I don’t think I would call him the greatest. Muttiah Muralitharan with a greater success he had against India, I would rank him over Warne in my book,” added Gavaskar.

Warne was discovered unresponsive in his Koh Samui villa hotel, and despite frantic attempts by his four friends to resuscitate him, they were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. His body was being prepared to be returned to Melbourne, Australia, where his family have been offered a state funeral.
After Australia awoke to the shocking news, hundreds of fans left flowers at Warne's statue outside the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.
