Cricket fraternity pay rich tribute after Shane Warne passes away at 52

Shane Warne picked 708 Test and 293 ODI wickets for Australia from 1992-2007.

The cricketing world was left shocked when the news of the demise of Australia spin legend Shane Warne came through. He was only 52 and was currently in Thailand, as per the release from his management.

Warne’s management released a brief statement that he passed away in Koh Samui, Thailand, of a suspected heart attack. They requested that more details will be released later.

Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived. The family requests privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course,” the statement read.

This was a piece of truly shocking news as just a few hours away, Australia lost another legend in former wicketkeeper Rod Marsh, who passed away after a heart attack at the age of 74. The cricket fraternity was barely condoling the death of Marsh when they were hit by the further sad news of the passing of Shane Warne.

Warne made his debut in 1992 for Australia and went on to pick 708 wickets in 145 Tests including a hat-trick. He also picked 293 wickets in 194 ODIs for Australia and was part of the 1999 World Cup-winning Australian team, as he won the Player of the Match awards in the semi-final and final.

There has been a huge outpour of grief on social media at the death of Shane Warne and many of former and current cricketers from various international teams paid respects to the spin legend.
