As Harbhajan Singh announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Friday, December 24, the former Indian spinner’s wife, Geeta Basra, shared a heartfelt and touching post for the cricketer.

Since the off-spinner announced his decision on Friday, he has been receiving a plethora of messages and posts from all quarters of the world, where he has been congratulated on having had a brilliant and successful career. He played 103 Tests, 236 ODIs, and 28 T20Is for India in his 23-year-old career.

Basra also took to Instagram to pay tribute to one of the finest spinners in the history of the game, Harbhajan, saying she knows how long he "waited for this moment" and she is proud of what he has achieved during his cricketing career.

The former actress further said that she will always remember the fun and the excitement, along with all the stress and anxiety she had while watching her husband play for India and in domestic cricket.

Congratulating Harbhajan for an amazing career, Basra said that not many players can boast of playing for 23 years, as she showed several photos of herself with Harbhajan and their daughter Hinaya from his playing days for India, Mumbai Indians, and Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.

She wrote on Instagram: “I know how long you waited for this moment…mentally you had retired a long time ago but officially you were waiting for the right moment. Today I want to say how proud we are of you and what you have achieved! There is so much more that awaits you on this beautiful road ahead.”

The loving wife continued, “I will always remember the fun and the excitement along with all the stress and anxiety I had watching you play, the superstitions during every game, the endless prayers, learning the game through you, and celebrating each momentous victory and record you made! Congratulations on an amazing career Bhaj..not many can boast of playing for 23 years!!!”

I know the end was not the way you wanted or planned it but as they say destiny is not in our hands….you played with grit, passion, fire and with your head held high! Wishing you more success and prosperity in life for the ‘doosra’ chapter ahead….the best is yet to come my love.”
