Karnataka batsman Devdutt Padikkal made his India debut on the recent Sri Lanka tour in July. He became the first male cricketer born in this millennium to play for India.

Padikkal talked about his experience in interaction with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) social media team. He was handed over the debut cap along with Ruturaj Gaikwad, Nitish Rana, and Chetan Sakariya in the second T20I of the series after COVID-19 hit the Indian team.

"It was a very exciting experience for me. Just being a part of the group. I was really excited to be there and was just looking to learn and improve,” said Padikkal.

“For lots of us, it was our first tour with the Indian team, and everyone just wanted to pick new techniques from each other and the senior players in the squad. It was a really good experience overall," he added.

Padikkal scored 29 off 23 balls in his first game, and nine runs in his second match. He was dismissed by his new RCB teammate, Wanindu Hasaranga on debut and Ramesh Mendis in the next match.

The 21-year-old is currently under quarantine in Dubai ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021). RCB will face Kolkata Knight Riders on September 20 in the second phase of IPL 2021.
