India wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya won a silver medal in Men's Freestyle 57 kg category on the ongoing Olympics 2020 in Tokyo. He faced ROC’s (Russian Olympic Commission) Zavur Uguev but lost the bout 4-7.

Ravi Dahiya is the reigning Asian Champion in the men’s 57kg freestyle category and a bronze medallist at the 2019 World championships. He was a silver medallist at the U23 World Championship in 2018

This was Ravi’s debut in the Olympic games and he had defeated Kazakhstan’s Nurislam Sanyev. He was trailing 2-9 but then pinned the Kazak wrestler in the dying moments of the bout to make it to the Final.

He became the first Indian wrestler since Sushil Kumar at the 2012 London Olympics to enter the finals of a wrestling bout.

The final saw Dahiya take on a two-time World Champion in the category Uguev and lose the bout by 4-7. However, Ravi became the second Indian wrestler, after Sushil Kumar, to win the silver medal at the Olympic Games and a fifth wrestler to bag an Olympic medal.

Despite coming second in the final bout, the Indian cricket fraternity lauded Ravi Dahiya’s efforts and courage and his amazing silver medal performance in the Olympics 2020 on Twitter.
