With just two weeks left for the much anticipated Tokyo Olympics 2020, on Tuesday (July 6), Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar sent out best wishes to Indian athletes and urged the sports fans to cheer on the Indian Olympians participating in the global event.
Over 100 athletes from India have qualified for the Olympics, which was postponed by a year because of the COVID-19 pandemic and now begin on July 23 amid strict health safety protocols.
Indian athletes are slogging hard to leave their mark in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics 2020 and Tendulkar lauded them for continuing their preparations for the Olympics despite facing many challenges due to the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak.
On Tuesday, the legendary batsman shared a short clip of himself on Twitter, wherein he highlighted how the Indian athletes worked hard to prepare for the Tokyo Olympics 2020 in order to make India proud and now it’s our turn to cheer for them and support them from the home.
Tendulkar said in a video on Twitter: “During the pandemic, all of us have faced challenges, including our athletes. They didn't give up and continued with their preparation for the Olympics. I know they are gearing up to give their best performance in Tokyo Olympics.”
He concluded, “There is milliseconds difference between win and loss and for that, they have been putting in hard work for years and at this moment they need our support and wishes. Let's cheer for India.”
Noteworthy, Men's Hockey team captain Manpreet Singh and legendary boxer MC Mary Kom will be India's flag-bearers at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 opening ceremony on July 23 while the wrestler Bajrang Punia will be the country’s flag-bearer for the closing ceremony on 8 August.
