The Euro 2020 match between Denmark and Finland on Saturday (June 12) had to be stopped for nearly two hours after Danish soccer player Christian Eriksen collapsed in the first half of the game.

Eriksen dropped to the ground at the Parken Stadium around the 42nd minute, leaving players from both teams visibly distressed.

The star midfielder underwent prolonged treatment on the pitch before being taken away on a stretcher. It was later confirmed that he was awake and in a stable condition in hospital.

The game was suspended in the first half due to the medical emergency, but UEFA "agreed to restart the match" after receiving requests from players of both teams.

Social media was flooded with best wishes for Christian Eriksen around the world and similar expressions of solidarity came from the cricket fraternity as well.
