Cyclone Tauktae made landfall in Arabian Sea near coast of Mumbai and will travel to Gujarat.

As cyclone Tauktae made landfall near the coasts of Mumbai on its way to Gujarat in the Arabian Sea, heavy rains, winds, and a combination of two lashed across the city on May 17, 2021.

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians posted a video on Twitter urging the residents to "stay indoors, stay safe".

The video showed visuals from two of the most iconic buildings of the city- Gateway of India and the Taj Hotel- which shows high waves crashing into the stone culverts and strong wind blowing through the trees.

The sheer intensity of the wind shocked many with renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle also tweeting, “Have seen a lot of rain in Mumbai over the years but hardly ever winds like these that are accompanying the rain. Scary. #MumbaiRains.

Mumbai experienced extreme rainfall and winds up to 100 km per hour, and temporary shelters were put up across the city. The international airport had been shut till 4 pm and the movement on the famous Bandra-Worli Sea Link was also been suspended.
