Marco Jansen returned with 2/28 in his IPL debut game for MI versus RCB in Chennai.
6 feet 8 inch South African fast-bowling sensation Marco Jansen is among the fresh faces in the ongoing 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) and when he was handed the Mumbai Indians (MI) cap in the season opener, he took no time to display his potential.
The 20-year-old, who was bought by Mumbai Indians (MI) at his base price of Rs. 20 lakh, made his IPL debut in the season opener against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Chennai on Friday (April 9).
Jansen had an impressive debut in the world’s biggest T20 league, as the fast-bowler returned with the figures of 2/28 in his 4 overs including the crucial wicket of RCB’s dangerous batsman Glenn Maxwell.
Watching the young South African’s performance in the lucrative tournament on debut, Dale Steyn took to Twitter to hail Jansen following his impressive spell against the RCB in the IPL 14 opener on Friday.
Steyn wrote on Twitter: “Well done tonight Marco Jansen! May have lost but you can be very proud,”
However, Marco said he isn’t on Twitter but once he got to know Steyn hailed him for his debut show, the youngster thanked the Proteas pace legend for his words in a video shared by the MI on Twitter.
Sharing his experience of playing his first IPL game, Jansen said in the video: “Obviously, I was a bit nervous but more good nerves as compared to bad nerves, I guess. The first over, not the best of starts but I am very glad that I could come back and make a good impact in the game, especially contributing for the side and getting my first wicket as well.”
He added, “I am thankful to Steyn for watching the game and also making good comments on Twitter. I am personally not on Twitter but I am very happy that I have made a positive impact to the team.”
