Sri Lanka lost the Test series to England 2-0.
The team was trying to put up a solid target against England but had lost quick wickets to England spinners Jack Leach and Dom Bess. The experienced duo of Chandimal and Mathews was at the crease and much was expected from the captain.
However, he decided to play an expansive shot against Leach and was caught by Anderson for 9 runs. Sri Lanka, who had scored 381 in the 1st innings, managed only 126 in the second and asked England to make just 164 runs in the second innings to clean sweep the Test series.

It was also revealed that Chandimal’s shot which got him dismissed came moments after England keeper Jonny Bairstow egged him on to throw his wicket away from behind the stumps. The Englishman said: "Come'on Chandi, Throw your wicket away."
And the Sri Lanka captain obliged in grand style.
England's six-wicket win in the second Test against Sri Lanka in Galle was their fifth consecutive win overseas -- a first in 107 years. The last time they did it was 107 years ago when they won seven consecutive games abroad --- three in South Africa and four in Australia between December 1911 and January 1914
