Maradona passed away at the age of 60 after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all-time, Argentina's Diego Maradona passed away on Wednesday (November 25) at the age of 60, after suffering a cardiac arrest. He had recently underwent a successful brain surgery following which he was discharged.
Maradona led Argentina famously to victory in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, scoring an unforgettable individual goal against England in the semi-final. He enjoyed popularity across the world and at his peak he was some distance ahead of his rivals. He scored 34 goals for his country in 91 appearances.
Following retirement from football, Maradona developed heart issues due to alcohol and drug addiction. He had managed the Argentina national team from 2008 to 2010. It would be fair to say that his life was just as king size as his professional career.
The magical footballer had lots of fans in India, including from the Indian cricketing fraternity, which expressed shock and sadness after hearing about his death.
