Kumble picked 619 Test and 337 ODI wickets for India.
Former India captain and highest wicket-taker for the country in international cricket, Anil Kumble is celebrating his big 50th birthday today on October 17, 2020. Kumble is currently in UAE for the IPL 2020 as the Director of cricket operations and head coach of the Kings XI Punjab franchise.
Kumble is widely regarded as one of the greatest spinners to come out of India and his record in international cricket suggests the same as well. He made his Test debut for India in 1990 and retired from the game in 2008 against Australia.
In the meantime, he played 132 Tests and 271 ODIs for India. He picked 619 Test, and 337 ODI wickets, both records for India so far. He also made 2506 Test runs, including one century. He holds the record for the second-best bowling figures in an innings in Test history as he picked 10/74 against Pakistan in Delhi in 1999.
Kumble also played three seasons in the IPL, leading the Royal Challengers Bangalore to the finals in the 2009 edition. He picked 45 wickets in 43 matches with the best bowling of 5/5.
After retirement from cricket, Kumble went onto coach the Indian team as well. India beat West Indies, New Zealand, Bangladesh, and England in Test series under his coaching. However, a tiff with captain Virat Kohli led to his resignation from the post after the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy.
Today as Kumble turns 50, the cricket fraternity wished one of the greatest bowlers of all-time on his birthday.
