Dhawan has been out of cricket since December last year, after hurting his shoulder during the ODI series against Australia at home. He missed the tour to New Zealand before the IPL, which was scheduled to begin on March 29, was postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Dhawan has become quite popular on social media thanks to his entertaining videos with son Zoraver on Instagram. In IPL 2019, Dhawan was in top form and scored 521 runs to finish as the fourth-highest run-scorer in the cash-rich league. He has 4,579 runs from 159 matches in all IPL.
The IPL governing council is set to meet on August 2 to discuss and finalize many issues pertaining to the upcoming 13th edition of the tournament. The final schedule, SOPs for franchises, permission for the family of players to travel to UAE, and other things will be discussed in the meeting along with the availability of foreign players as well.
