Well, on April 30, there was more bad news and this time, India’s acting icon, Rishi Kapoor had passed away at the age of 67, after battling cancer for two years. The nation had not gotten over the death of one acting genius when this news probably broke everyone who followed Indian movies.
Rishi Kapoor was the son of great showman Raj Kapoor and grandson of Prithviraj Kapoor. He had made his acting debut in Raj Kapoor’s epic Mera Naam Joker and his first movie as a leading man was Bobby in 1973, for which he won the Filmfare award for best actor.
Rishi Kapoor went onto star as a romantic lead in 92 movies between 1973 and 2000. He also directed the 1999 movie Aa Ab Laut Chalein featuring Aishwarya Rai and since 2000, worked in character roles with substance.
His most notable role was that of Monty in 1980 epic Karz, a musical journey of reincarnation with unforgettable songs. Some of his more notable roles in recent times came in Agneepath, Kapoor, and Sons, and Do Dooni Char.
Latest heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor is Rishi’s son and is regarded as one of the best young talents today. Rishi was married to actress Neetu Singh, who cut short her flourishing career to be with him.
The great actor was battling bone marrow cancer for the past two years and was in New York for treatment. However, he complained of difficulty in breathing and was admitted to the Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai, where he passed away on April 30, 2020.
