Apart from Team India, Ashwin has also played under Dhoni at Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Supergiants before he was picked by IPL franchises Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Capitals.

Talking about Dhoni’s leadership, the Tamil Nadu tweaker hailed the former as one of the greatest captains in both domestic and international circuits.

"MSD one of the greatest captain India has ever seen, one of the greatest captains IPL has ever seen," Ashwin added.

It has been over nine months since MS Dhoni last played any form of competitive cricket. The World Cup 2019 semi-final against New Zealand at Old Trafford was his last appearance in Team India colours.

Dhoni was set to lead CSK during the 13th edition of IPL in a bid to stake claim for a place in the national squad for T20 World Cup. But now with the IPL 2020 being postponed indefinitely due to Coronavirus pandemic, his cricket future has become a topic of debate.
