Kevin Pietersen on Thursday (April 23) urged the media outlets not to sensationalize Michael Vaughan’s claim that English players were envious of his lucrative IPL contract.

Recently, Vaughan alleged that Pietersen's multi-million dollar IPL deal had made his England teammates jealous which further tarnished his image in the dressing room.

“I think there was a lot of jealousy. And the players will completely deny it now but I think there was at the time when Kevin was on a massive contract,” Vaughan told foxsports.com.au. “There were all sorts of whispers and rumours of cliques in the team. There was a little band of a few; Graeme Swann, Tim Bresnan, (James) Anderson, (Stuart) Broad and Matt Prior. The whispers were they were on one side and Kevin was kind of standing on his own on the other side.”

Subsequently, all the big media outlets highlighted this story which left Pietersen irked.

Taking to Twitter, the former England batsman wrote: “STAGGERING! Still getting headlines, these stories! Can I humbly request that this ISN’T spoken about AGAIN! We’ve all moved on and there’s many more wonderful things to talk about in my career!”

Considering the impact of COVID-19 pandemic globally, Pietersen also asked the media to spread positivity.

“We live in a broken world right now, where positivity is needed! PLEASE?!” he added.

Notably, Kevin Pietersen was among the first few English cricketers to feature in the cash-rich Indian Premier League. He was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore for $1.55 million in the IPL 2009 auction.
