The deadly COVID-19 outbreak has forced suspension of all on-field sporting activities. But off the field, while in isolation, cricketers are using social media to continue connecting with their fans, posting messages, videos and expressing views on different topics.

Among them, Australian cricketer Ashton Agar on Tuesday (April 21) revealed names that would feature in his all-time World XI.

Agar picked his fantasy team on the YouTube channel of Lord’s Cricket Ground and he included two Indian legends in it. The line-up was heavily dominated by Australians. West Indies too had two representatives while Sri Lanka and Pakistan had one player each in the team.

Agar, who has represented Australia in 4 Tests 13 ODIs and 24 T20Is so far, opted to go with Justin Langer and Virender Sehwag as his two openers. For the crucial No. 3 position, he preferred Australia’s leading Test scorer Ricky Ponting.

“He is my favorite cricketer of all-time. He looked to hit the ball from ball one and probably the most entertaining player to play the game,” Agar said. “I’ll have Ricky Ponting at number three and he will be the captain as well. He was always the captain of the great Australian team, so I got to watch as a kid, and he’s probably Australia’s greatest ever batsman.”

The middle-order comprises of Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara and Sir Vivian Richards while Adam Gilchrist was the designated wicketkeeper in Agar’s all-time World XI.

While picking the bowlers, Agar went with Shane Warne and Rangana Herath as his spin options. Shoaib Akhtar and Brett Lee form the pace attack of his side.

“Supreme control, someone who didn’t get to play as much Test cricket as he should have because of Muttiah Muralitharan. Herath’s longevity is amazing, and he is just mastered his craft, and I respect him. Being a left-arm spinner I try to take things out of his bowling. Great accuracy, changes of pace, and angles and all. He is a pleasure to watch,” he said.
