Born on April 18, 1992, India batsman KL Rahul is celebrating his 28th birthday today. Making his Test debut in 2014, the Karnataka-born right-hand batsman has had quite an interesting journey playing for his country across formats.

He was initially deemed as a classical Test batsman, with a solid technique, that many felt will serve India well in all conditions.

Soon, however, Rahul also turned into a terrific limited-overs player following a breakthrough IPL season for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2016, which ultimately led to his ODI and T20I debut in Zimbabwe a few months later.

Since then, he has played 36 Tests, 32 ODIs and 41 T20Is for India, scoring close to 5,000 runs at the highest level in a career where opportunities haven't always come his way regularly because of the ever-growing competition for slots.

In the IPL as well, Rahul is one of the best batsmen, turning up for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), a franchise that made him captain ahead of the league's 13th edition after two prolific seasons at the top of the order.

Apart from the quality of his batsmanship, what stands-out with Rahul is his willingness to do anything for the team, as he bats in the middle-order when needed and even keeps wickets these days in order to serve the Indian team's balance, which is similar to his inspiration Rahul Dravid, whom he was named after.

That's why, his teammates didn't shy away from expressing their love for the man as he turns 28.
