Jos Buttler was infamously Mankaded by R Ashwin during IPL 2019 match between RR and KXIP.
Buttler, on the other hand, has been one of the lynchpins of RR batting after being promoted to open the batting. His explosive tendencies at the top of the order even led to some opposition captains going to insane levels in order to dismiss him and gain an advantage.
IPL 2020: Big shame that IPL is not going ahead due to COVID-19 outbreak, says Jos Buttler
One such captain was Kings XI Punjab’s R Ashwin, who ran Buttler out in one of their IPL 2019 encounters, while Buttler was out of his crease at the non-striker’s end. Ashwin’s Mankading attempt was successful as after Buttler’s departure, the RR team fell apart in the chase and KXIP won a match that was deemed lost at one point.
Ish Sodhi got Jos Buttler on a chat on Royals' Podcast and couldn’t help but troll the England’s World Cup-winning wicketkeeper-batsman about that unfortunate incident. "Which Rajasthan Royals batsman was dismissed by a Mankad?" Ish Sodhi asked Jos Buttler to which the World Cup-winning star just laughed.
Here's the conversation between Sodhi and Buttler about Mankading:
Ish Sodhi: Which Rajasthan Royals batsman was dismissed by a Mankad?
Jos Buttler: Can I just say... (laughs)
Buttler: I don't know. Is that even a way of deciding dismissal these days?
Sodhi: Shouldn't be mate. I am with you Jos, it shouldn't be, mate.
Buttler: I think that might have been me.
Sodhi: Unfortunate.
The dismissal left the cricket world divided during last year's IPL. Eoin Morgan, Jason Roy, Kevin Pietersen, and Dale Steyn slammed Ashwin while Shane Warne said it was embarrassing and disgusting.
However, the likes of Sanjay Manjrekar, Harsha Bhogle, and Murali Karthik felt there was nothing wrong with what Ashwin did.
