The youngster felt he might never play Test cricket for Australia again.
The latest trailer of ‘The Test’ shows new Australian batting sensation Marnus Labuschagne speaking about his horrible Test debut and his negative afterthoughts.
Marnus Labuschagne made his Test debut against Pakistan in 2018 while Steve Smith and David Warner were banned after the Sandpaper incident. He was obviously happy that he was going to make his Test debut but the happiness did not last long.
He made a duck in his debut innings and his mind was filled with negative thoughts like he wasn’t going to be playing Test cricket ever again and would just be a forgotten Test cricketer for Australia.
SA v AUS 2020: "It’s going to be exciting", Labuschagne happy returning to land of birth
Labuschagne says in the trailer of The Test, “The journey of cricket is so rollercoaster. When you dream of playing your first Test you never dream of getting a duck on your debut. After I got a duck in the first innings you sit there and go, ‘am I going to be the guy who gets a pair on Test debut and doesn’t play again?”
However, that was not the case to be. He scored 13 in the second innings and avoided a pair on his Test debut. He then showed signs of improvement and the national selectors were keen to play him again.
Everything changed for him after he came in as a concussion substitute to Steve Smith in the Ashes and since has become one of their premier batsmen.
The trailer also shows the emotions Labuschagne went through when his name was announced in the playing XI. He said, “Amazing. Just when he called out the name all of a sudden you’re like, ‘wow, it’s actually happening. I’m going to play Test cricket for my country’.”
