North-East Delhi was the epicenter for rioting resulting in civilian and police deaths.
The riots started in Jaffrabad and Maujpur areas on February 24, where atleast one police constable Ratan Lal and one protestor was killed. The constable was shot dead as confirmed by the autopsy reports. The police personnel used tear gas and lathi charge against the protesters in the Chand Bagh area to control the clashes.
Violence was reported in the areas of Seelampur, Jafrabad, Maujpur, Kardampuri, Babarpur, Gokulpuri and Shivpuri and section 144 was imposed in all areas but rioters were still spotted. Further on February 25, stone pelting was reported from Maujpur, Brahampuri, and other neighboring areas. People wielding sticks and iron rods were reported to be roaming on the streets in the areas of Bhajanpura, Chand Bagh and Karawal Nagar in northeast Delhi.
Such unrest in the Indian capital has caught the attention of the cricket fraternity as well with many of the players taking to social media site Twitter to call for calm and peace. Cricketing personalities such as Irfan Pathan, Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag and many more tweeted to ask the citizens to keep peace and composure.
