Cricket fraternity shows concern for Glenn Maxwell after revelation of mental health issues

Australia mainstay Maxwell has taken a short break from the game.

Australia's Glenn Maxwell on Thursday (October 31) went on a short break from the game admitting publicly the "mental health difficulties" he has been facing. The swashbuckling batsman was last seen playing in the second T20I of the ongoing home series against Sri Lanka.

"Glenn Maxwell has been experiencing some difficulties with regards to his mental health. As a result, he will spend a short time away from the game. Glenn was proactive in identifying these issues and engaging with support staff," Cricket Australia Team Psychologist Dr Michael Lloyd confirmed the development in a media release.

Maxwell has featured in 7 Tests, 110 ODIs and 61 T20Is since his debut at the international level in 2012. The 31-year-old was key to Australia winning the 2015 ODI World Cup at home. 

Maxwell plays an enterprising brand of cricket and has always been at the centre of attention for it. 

Hence, it was a major surprise for many to see him go down with mental fatigue; although we are beginning to realise just how vulnerable all modern-day players are of being lost to these issues.
