Dussehra marks the beginning of preparations of Diwali.

In the southern, eastern and northeastern states of India, Vijayadashami marks the end of Durga Puja, remembering goddess Durga's victory over the buffalo demon Mahishasura. In Northern India, it is celebrated to mark the victory of Lord Rama over the demon king Ravana. It is celebrated by burning the towering effigies of Ravana symbolizing that evil is burnt with fireworks marking evil's destruction.
Dussehra also marks the beginning of the preparation of the biggest Hindu festival of Diwali.
