One of his most famous rivalries in cricket was with former South African captain Graeme Smith, who was dismissed the most times in international cricket by the left-arm pacer. In 27 matches across all formats, Zaheer dismissed Smith 14 times. Something that Smith remembers to this day and quoted it in his wish to Zak on his birthday.

Smith tweeted, “Happy birthday @ImZaheer have a great day buddy and thanks for all the memories!

Zaheer Khan played 92 Tests and 200 ODIs for India, picking 311 and 282 wickets respectively and was part of the 2011 World Cup-winning campaign under the leadership of MS Dhoni and picked the joint-most wickets in the tournament with Shahid Afridi.
