India's in-form opener Shikhar Dhawan received a blow on his left thumb during the match against Australia that ruled him out of the World Cup on Wednesday (June 19).

After picking up the injury, he was ruled out of the next 3-4 games and was scheduled to undergo tests in the next 10-12 days. However, reports suggested that his fractured thumb would take more time to heal than expected. Therefore, he was replaced by Rishabh Pant in India's World Cup squad.

After the unfortunate news, he posted a video on Twitter thanking his fans.

I feel emotional to announce that I will no longer be a part of #CWC19. Unfortunately, the thumb won’t recover on time. But the show must go on.. I'm grateful for all the love & support from my team mates, cricket lovers & our entire nation. Jai Hind!???? ???????? pic.twitter.com/zx8Ihm3051
