Gambhir had left Kolkata Knight Riders to play for Delhi Daredevils last year.
Two-time IPL winning captain Gautam Gambhir had opted out of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to play for his home team Delhi Daredevils (DD). But he might not have any idea that this decision will backfire him big time.
Unfortunately Gambhir couldn't give the desired result to the team and was soon dropped after leaving the captaincy after winning just one out of the first six games of IPL 2018.
Now DD decided to release him from the squad before the IPL 2019 player retention and release deadline ended.
The IPL trading window slammed shut on Thursday with 130 players including 44 overseas players retained by the eight franchises according to a media release by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Apart from Gambhir, veteran cricketer Yuvraj Singh was also released from Kings XI Punjab. The fans of the 37-year-old southpaw were angry with the decision. They showed a strong reaction after the decision was made public by Delhi Daredevils.
Here are the reactions:
Only @GautamGambhir could have won you IPL. Another season to lose next year. Waste of team. Stupid of a franchise. You have hurt Delhi ppl over the years.

DD officials should use their brains while selecting the squad. Mark my words you can never win ipl without gambhir. I don't understand what u ppl think while selecting squad.
