Murali Vijay becomes the first debutant to score a ton for Essex since Hashim Amla in 2009.
Vijay who bagged a pair at Lord’s as James Anderson got his number both times in the Test. For Vijay, it was a big fall from grace, as he continued his struggles from South Africa, where he was found wanting against a good pace attack.
He was sent back home in the middle of series and was replaced in the squad by an 18-year-old. This could easily mean the end of the road for the 2014 Test series hero.
M Vijay scored 56 in the first innings for Essex against Nottinghamshire and then scored a brilliant century on debut for them. He became the first debut centurion for Essex since 2009, when South African Hashim Amla achieved the feat.
