Finch’s innings helped Australia to post a mammoth total of 229/2 in 20 overs.
Australia opener Aaron Finch has shattered the record books with a glorious T20I hundred against Zimbabwe in Harare on Tuesday (July 3).
Finch, who was recently named Australia’s T20I skipper, hammered 172 off 76 balls – the highest individual T20I score ever – to help his team post a mammoth total of 229/2 in 20 overs. At the 125-run mark, Finch broke Shane Watson’s record of the highest individual score by a captain in a T20I match. However, he was far from finished.
The Victorian went on to break his own record of the highest individual score in T20 internationals, surpassing the 156 he had scored against England in 2013.
Finch fell just three runs short of Chris Gayle’s record for the highest individual T20 score as he bizarrely got hit wicket of the bowling off Muzarabani. Gayle had scored an unbeaten 175 for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors India in IPL 2013.
Twitterverse was left awestruck with the batting exhibition of Finch. His innings was laced with 16 fours and 10 sixes as the Twitter experts run out of adjectives to describe the blitz.
