Ravi Shastri won the Man of tournament in the 1985 World Championship of cricket and got an Audi car.
Current India coach and former all-rounder Ravi Shastri celebrates his 56th birthday today.
Born on May 27, 1962, Ravi Shastri played 80 Tests, making 3830 runs with 11 centuries and took 151 wickets with a best of 5/75. He also played a crucial role in ODIs, making 3108 runs in 150 ODIs and picked 129 wickets with a best of 5/15 and scored 4 centuries.
He made his Test debut for India against New Zealand in 1981 and played his last Test against South Africa in 1992. An unfortunate knee injury forced him to retire at the age of 30.
Shastri started off as a bowler who could bat a bit, but through sheer determination and watertight technique, got promoted to open for the country and flourished as a stonewalling batsman of the highest quality. However, the same stonewalling Ravi Shastri also hit six sixes in six consecutive balls in a FC match against Baroda in 1985, to the unlucky bowler Tilak Raj. In the process, he went on to score the fastest-ever double century in First-Class cricket history.
After retiring from cricket, he became a high profile TV commentator and performed duties as director of the Indian team and is now the coach of Indian team.
The whole Indian cricket fraternity took to Twitter to congratulate Ravi Shastri on his birthday and we have some tweets for you.
From being a prolific allrounder in his playing days to a successful coach of the Indian Team. Happy Birthday @RaviShastriOfc!
