Pakistan were bowled out for 163 after being set a target of 268 runs in the final innings.
Bangladesh completed a historic 104-run victory over Pakistan in the first Test in Dhaka on Tuesday (May 12), defying Salman Ali Agha’s bold challenge to chase any target.
Young pacer Nahid Rana returned with a five-wicket haul (5-40), dismantling the visitors for 163 all-out to secure Bangladesh's maiden home Test win against Pakistan. This result also marked Bangladesh’s third successive win over Pakistan in Test cricket.
Speaking to media after the fourth day’s play, Agha boasted that Pakistan would comfortably chase 260 in 70 overs, saying: "If they are brave enough to do that, give us 70 overs and 260, we will definitely go for the chase. But I don't think they will do that."
As things turned out, Bangladesh declared their second innings in the first session on Day 5 after scoring 240/9, setting a target of 268 runs for Pakistan with 76 overs remaining. However, the Shan Masood-led side suffered a miserable collapse in the fourth innings, getting bowled out in the final session.
After Pakistan’s humiliating defeat, Salman Ali Agha was brutally trolled on social media for his comments in the press conference.
Here are the reactions:
Agha’s performance in the first Test against Bangladesh saw him score a first-innings half-century (58). However, he was unable to impact the game in the final innings, scoring only 26 runs. He also remained wicketless across both innings.
