Asha Bhosle was the sister of legendary Lata Mangeshkar.
Asha Bhosle’s son Anand and granddaughter Zanai confirmed the news that the legendary singer with a career of over 70 years was no more.
Her son Anand also confirmed that her mortal remains will be kept at her residence in Casa Grande, Lower Parel, at 11:00 AM for public viewing. The final rites are scheduled to take place with full honors at Shivaji Park tomorrow at 4:00 PM.
Asha Bhosle, Pt Deenanath Mangeshkar's third daughter, was born on September 8, 1933, in Sangli. She sang her debut song, Chala Chala Nav Bala, for the film 'Majha Bal' in 1943, when she was 10 years old. She had three more sisters, legendary Lata Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar, and Meena Mangeshkar, and one brother, Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar.
She had a hit combination with music directors such as OP Nayyar and RD Burman, whom she eventually married. Bhosle sang a wide range of songs, from cabaret to classical, humorous, and romantic. She won the Filmfare Award eight times and a national award for best singer two times.
She received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2001. In 2011, Guinness World Records named Asha Bhosle the most recorded performer in music history, with 11,000 tracks, including solos, duets, and chorus numbers in numerous languages. She was bestowed with the Padma Vibhushan by the government of India.
Asha Bhosle left a huge legacy behind her, and not only did the Bollywood and entertainment industries mourn her demise; even the Indian cricket fraternity was left shocked by the news of her passing. Notably, Asha Bhosle had released a song with Australian pacer Brett Lee in 2006.
