Mustafizur Rahman of Bangladesh was signed by KKR in IPL 2026 auction for INR 9.20 crores.
Bangladesh has written to the ICC to seek that its T20 World Cup matches be moved from India to Sri Lanka due to the standoff, which has caused tensions between India and Bangladesh to reach an all-time high.
Rahman was selected by KKR for INR 9.20 crore in the December IPL 2026 auction, although he was later released from the team on instructions from the BCCI.
The outcry against KKR's selection of Rahman grew in India as a result of numerous reports of Hindus being killed in Bangladesh. The 30-year-old left-arm bowler was the only player from Bangladesh selected in the auction, which is noteworthy.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Nabi attended the post-match presentation with his son Hassan Eisakhil after a BPL 2026 match. He was asked by a Bangladeshi reporter to share his views on the ongoing Mustafizur Rahman and IPL controversy.
Nabi was extremely irritated and asked the reporter what the situation had to do with him.
“Iska merese kya lena dena bhai. Mera Mustafizur se kya kaam hai? Politics me kya kaam hai mera? (What do I have to do with it? How am I related to Mustafizur? I don't have anything to do with politics),” Nabi replied to the reporter during the press conference conducted after the Bangladesh Premier League match between Noakhali Express and Dhaka Capitals.
“I know he is a good bowler, all these things. But the way you are questioning, it's not related to me,” he added.
The BCB is expecting a response from the ICC to their second communication, in which they stated that they do not want to travel to India for the World Cup due to security concerns.
The 20-team tournament will be held in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8, with Bangladesh scheduled to play three matches at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Bangladesh is grouped in Group C with Nepal, Italy, England, and the West Indies. The team will commence their campaign against the two-time champions, West Indies, on February 7 in Kolkata.
