India have still not received the Asia Cup trophy that has been locked by Mohsin Naqvi in ACC office.
During the entire tourney, Indian team captain Suryakumar Yadav had refused to shake hands with Pakistan’s Salman Agha, and similarly, Indian players didn’t shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts.
This started in the group stage of the tournament and continued when India and Pakistan faced off in the Super 6s stage and then in the final of the tournament. India managed to defeat Pakistan all three times quite comfortably, as they were the better team with both the ball and the bat.
However, India also decided not to take the trophy from the hands of ACC and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, and they have remained trophyless despite being Asia Cup champions. Naqvi has locked the Asia Cup trophy in the ACC headquarters in Dubai and has put a condition that India will get the trophy only when their captain comes and takes it from his hands.
Shaheen Afridi attended a trial in Pakistan and made a controversial remark about India’s actions in the Asia Cup tourney. He stated that Pakistan was ready to let bygones be bygones, but Indian players violated sportsmanship.
"People across the border violated sportsmanship. Our job is to play cricket, and that remains our focus. We will try to respond on the field," Afridi said in a press meet.
India’s actions were a result of the tragic terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam in April 2025 that claimed multiple lives. This resulted in India launching Operation Sindoor on Pakistan after its military attacked India with drones in May 2025. India destroyed multiple airbases in Pakistan, giving them a strong reply, while showcasing great military might and strong defense.
