WATCH- Jemimah Rodrigues' captivating rendition of ‘Aashayein’ song mesmerizes audience at Reliance event

Jemimah Rodrigues will captain Delhi Capitals in upcoming WPL 2026.

India women’s star Jemimah Rodrigues astonished fans with a rocking musical moment at the recent Reliance Foundation United in Triumph event in Mumbai, when she mesmerized the crowd with her performance of the uplifting anthem Aashayein, which is from the acclaimed 2005 sports movie Iqbal.

Iqbal depicts the tale of Shreyas Talpade, a deaf and mute youngster who overcomes enormous hurdles to follow his ambition of playing cricket for India, with the help of his coach, played by Naseeruddin Shah.  

The song "Aashayein," sung by the late KK, written by Irfan Siddique, and composed by the Salim-Sulaiman duo, has become a popular anthem of optimism and endurance.

Jemimah, famed for both her batting prowess and her musical talent, delivered an emotional performance at the Reliance event, accompanied by her proud parents, Ivan and Lavita Rodrigues. Her performance, which combined sport and singing, wowed onlookers and sparked social media celebrations.

Jemimah Rodrigues will have a lot on her shoulders as she was named the Delhi Capitals captain for the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 season that begins on January 9. Jemimah replaced the legendary Meg Lanning as DC skipper after Lanning moved to the UP Warriorz.

The Delhi Capitals will begin their campaign on Saturday, January 10, against Harmanpreet Kaur’s Mumbai Indians (MI) at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
