Rob Key, the managing director of England's men's squad, downplayed allegations of serious wrongdoing while stating that the board will investigate complaints of excessive alcohol use during the team's mid-Ashes break in Noosa.
Key made it clear that overindulgence would not be tolerated, but he stated he had no problem with the scheduled break between the second and third tests, which was meant to help players relax after a lengthy trip.
The former England opener also acknowledged that similar occurrences, like social media videos involving Harry Brook and Jacob Bethell, had previously been examined and that informal cautions rather than official action had been taken.
"We are aware of content circulating on social media. We have high expectations for behavior, accepting that players are often under intense levels of scrutiny, with established processes that we follow when conduct falls below expectations. We also support players that need assistance. We will not comment further at this stage while we establish the facts,” the ECB told Sky Sports News.
England will have to regroup amidst Christmas festivities, as the fourth Test will be the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne from December 26.
